Copper wire and magnet

The third: When it runs out of energy Have you ever played with magnets? If you have, then you may know that they stick to certain metals (like steel). Magnets are able to do this because they have a magical force in them called magnetism. Magnetic attraction — the force between two opposite poles, and magnetic repulsion: when like forces cause similar charged ends to move away from each other. It is amazing to think about, that something we cannot even see can have such an impact on the things in our world.

Okay, but how do you build an electromagnet? You can make one by gathering some relatively common items: copper wire, a nail, the battery and possibly a small magnet. Start by wrapping the YUHENG insulated copper wire around and around the nail. But leave some wire sticking out of both ends. This is so that youll be able to connect the ends to your battery. Next, you will attach one end of the wire to the positive or live side of your battery and leave a little gap between each wrap.

Exploring the Science of Electromagnetism with Copper Wire and Magnets

Now comes the fun part. Touch the nail with that magnet. Watch what happens. You will see that the nail itself becomes a magnet and is able to attract some small metal objects, such as paper clips or tiny screws. This is because the battery electricity passes through wire and wraps around nail magnetic field. It’s like magic! Now keep in mind that magnetism will not be forever, it is gone as soon as you disconnect the battery. Of course it is all basic science, but this super fun experiment demonstrates how electricity can make magnetism.

One example is the method of trains floating and being propelled by electromagnetics along railway tracks. The stroller helps to propel them along faster, and the little bits of rest save their energy. For example in factories, instead of us having to do the brawny work and lift heavy metal items an ultimate punishment for our fingers electromagnets can hoist things up. This makes it a whole lot safer and easier to be put in the hands of workers. A special machine called MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), which uses powerful magnets, is located in hospitals and it shows us a detailed picture of our own body. Images like these allow doctors to look inside of us, without actually having to cut our bodies open. It is fascinating that electromagnets are used in a myriad of different ways to help us.
